Who do we aim for
Building a library is usually a once-in-a-career project.
Take the chance to turn it into a unique experience for yourself!
Building a new library or refurbishing an existing one is a challenging task, that involves many interests and a great number of different parties, and therefore requires careful planning and the commitment of a variety skills and competencies.
LANDMARK LIBRARIES aims at librarians in the stage of developing building plans for a new library.
LANDMARK LIBRARIES ensure your involvement as core player of your building project, from the rough draft, through the construction process, until the grand opening!!
- A = apprentice
LANDMARK LIBRARIES supports librarians in the earliest stages of the building process: those who are complete novices, but therefore probably still in a position to get control.
Apart from learning from the presentations of recently finished building AAA-projects, the Apprentice librarian can also attend the tutorials where AA-librarians discuss their plans.
- AA = applicant
Librarians in the stage of developing their building plans have the opportunity to present these plans in individual tutorials with an experienced colleague who has recently completed a building project. These ‘experts’ know the questions and the pitfalls, and they will help you find your way through the answers.
Applicants can apply to present their project during the next atelier (and subsequently win the LL-award).
- AAA = award-winner
During each atelier, a number of recently completed projects are presented. The LANDMARK LIBRARIES AWARD is conferred to the librarian who was able to balance the interests of all parties involved and yet managed to procure his vision and materialize his concepts and ideas.
A LANDMARK LIBRARIES AWARD is the embodiment of appreciation of colleagues and rewards good practice in monitoring a library building process.
The award-winning librarian is invited to organise the next LANDMARK LIBRARIES ATELIER.
If you recently finished a library building project, you can apply for a LANDMARK LIBRARIES AWARD? You will be invited to present your building project during the next Atelier where colleagues may grant you the LL-Award for good practice in monitoring your library building process! - AAA+ = achievement award
LANDMARK LIBRARIES ATELIERS take place in an operational library that was build less than three years ago. This library is reviewed and assessed by colleagues and participants: Were the concepts from the building plan effectively met? What are the critical success factors? What lessons can be learned?
The LANDMARK LIBRARIES ACHIEVEMENT AWARD acknowledges that the awarded library has achieved its intended goals and objectives.
